Easy, Easy: Your Life Audible
Feb 16, 2026
“Easy, Easy.”
I’ve written before about how those words were used to call an audible when I was in college.
The original play was no longer the right call.
The defense had shifted and changed.
Being able to call audibles allowed Coach Leach’s quarterbacks—and our offense—the freedom to adapt. We could get ourselves into a better call and onto a better path.
And this "Easy, Easy" audible is a great life skill for you as well.
You’ll have the perfect play drawn up…
And then the defense shifts.
You get the blitz you didn’t expect.
This is one of those events that didn’t go the way you planned.
So going back to our formula:
E + P + R = O
(Event + Perception + Response = Outcome)
What are you going to do next?
Use the Mind Strength skill: “Easy, Easy.”
Just like I told our offense we were changing the play and going in a new direction, you can do the same for yourself.
When you call “Easy, Easy” out loud, you’re telling yourself that you’re not going down the familiar road of letting the event dictate the sequence.
Instead, do this:
1️⃣ Call it out — “Easy, Easy.”
Acknowledge that you’re calling an audible.
(Being conscious is always the first step in change and growth.)
2️⃣ Improve your state with 4–6 breathing.
Remember: your state determines your perception.
Breathe 4 seconds in, 6 seconds out through your nose.
Do 1 round, 3 rounds, or however many you need to get yourself into a more empowered state.
3️⃣ Create an empowering frame.
Think about moments in your life when something didn’t go the way you wanted—but ended up being one of the best things for your growth and your life.
Bring that mentality into this moment.
Try statements like:
-
“Somehow, someway, things are going my way.”
-
“What a great learning opportunity. The best version of myself is on the other side.”
-
“I can do this. I can do this. I can do this.” (My personal favorite.)
4️⃣ Respond in an empowering way.
Ask yourself:
What’s within my control right now?
This step is critical—because life is about action.
And the actions you take ultimately become your life.
So when life throws you a curveball out of left field:
“Easy, Easy” → breathe → reframe → respond.
- You lose the job you were banking on.
“Easy, Easy.”
You pivot. You recalibrate.
You find a better fit—one that aligns with who you really are. - A relationship ends.
“Easy, Easy.”
You stop outsourcing your identity.
You rebuild from the inside out. You rediscover peace. - You deal with some health issues.
“Easy, Easy.”
You appreciate life more. You deepen your faith.
You sharpen your mind strength. - You thought you’d be in the NFL for ten years—but you weren’t.
“Easy, Easy.”
You shift focus. You find a deeper calling.
You coach.
The events in your life don’t hold the weight—how you perceive them does.
“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” - Wayne Dyer
