My sports psychologist, Dr. Craig Manning, taught me about a principle he called the Law of Occupied Space.
The idea is simple: We all have space in our minds that must be filled. We can intentionally fill that space with productive thoughts, positive inputs, and things within our control. If we leave it unoccupied, fear, worry, and negativity will fill it by default.
That’s why Morning Mind Strength is so powerful.
Morning Mind Strength is the intentional practice of occupying your mind in a positive, proactive way before the demands of the day take over.
If you immediately reach for your phone, check your email, turn on the news, or react to other people’s priorities, you allow those things to set the tone for your day. When you begin with intention, you give your mind direction and provide yourself with guardrails.
Morning Mind Strength doesn’t need to be long or complicated. Start with 10 minutes or less. Pray, read a devotional, meditate, journal, breathe, enjoy a good cup of coffee in silence, take a walk, or repeat affirmations.
If you want to begin practicing Morning Mind Strength, here are a few ideas:
Choose something you’ll enjoy and can consistently practice each morning. Then have the discipline to occupy the space before something else does.
