In college, I remember watching a talk from Dr. Wayne Dyer in which he used the metaphor of an orange.
When you squeeze an orange, what comes out?
Orange juice.
Not apple juice. Not cranberry juice. Orange juice.
It doesn’t matter who squeezes it, how hard they squeeze it, or how many times they squeeze it. Orange juice will come out every time.
Why?
Because that is what’s inside.
The same is true for you and me.
When life squeezes you through criticism, uncertainty, the job market, adversity, or a crisis, what comes out?
Is it anger, anxiety, resentment, bitterness, or hatred?
If so, that is what is inside.
Or is it confidence, resilience, competitiveness, compassion, love, peace, and trust?
It doesn’t matter what caused the pressure. What comes out when you are squeezed reveals what is inside.
The good news is that, unlike an orange, we can change what is inside us.
To me, that is what Mind Strength training is all about. It is the process of mastering your inner world so you can handle whatever the external world throws at you or, in this case, however it squeezes you.
You cannot always control what squeezes you. But you can train what comes out.
